Erwin Hauer Vase

Conceptual Design and Design Parametrization

The client’s design brief called for a home product that takes inspiration from Erwin Hauer’s (1926 - 2017) work in architecture.

The proposal involves a vase design that takes inspiration from infinite continuous surfaces by re-imagining one of Hauer’s iconic wall patterns into a cylindrical container with a rounded base. The interweaved meshes that conform to the surface merge at the top edge and the bottom tip of the container allowing the continuity of the geometry.

Given the design is thought for an on-demand 3D printed product, each vase can be variated to change its dimensions or generate controlled pattern variations that allow a unique customization of the product.
