MEMO

Melbourne Mood

A place is defined beyond its physical environment by the behavior, interactions, and emotions of the people who pass through it. In today's world, where digital media plays a significant role in our lives, we often experience places through a screen. Posts, comments, and "statuses" on social media can also shape our experience of a place.

Meet MEMO…

To connect the city of Melbourne with the new development "Melbourne Quarter," the MEMO (Melbourne Mood) proposal aims to use digital media and social networks to create an interactive space. By collecting and analyzing big data, MEMO's lighting installation will display the overall mood of the city through colored lights. This way, acrylic light poles will respond to real-time "public mood" information.

Not only will the installation provide a visual representation of the city's mood, but it will also encourage public and personal interaction on site. Proximity and pressure sensors will trigger emotional states, which will be reflected in a wider range of colors that blend with those generated by the city.

Through this connection between digital media, MEMO, and the people of Melbourne, a recursive cycle will be formed. This will allow for an exploration of the city's changing mood and how we can respond to it on a personal level.
